Food Pantry Wagon
St. John’s will be collecting non-perishable food. Please bring your offering to church on Sundays and place it in our Wagon in the Narthex. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to give to others.

John's Island Post Acute
Our next-door neighbors need our help. They are looking for volunteers who are willing to visit with residents who do not have family or friends close by. The act of someone coming to their room and talking with them, reading a book, or just being there can mean so much to them.
If you are unable to visit in person but would like to help in other ways, you can check out their Amazon Wish List.

Johns Island Meals on Wheels
The Johns Island Meals on Wheels needs drivers to deliver meals. Meals are picked up at Our Lady of Mercy on Bohicket Road at 10:30 am. There are two delivery routes. Blessing Baskets
The Blessing Basket delivers food once a month to the Rural Housing located across the street from St. John’s Episcopal Church.
They are also looking for drivers to deliver food to shut-ins on Johns Island.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry, led by Susie Jenkins, Karen Poehling, and the Pastoral Care Ministry, creates handcrafted shawls, quilts, and blankets infused with prayers and blessed by a priest. These items are given to those in need of comfort during medical procedures, illness, recovery, or loss, as well as to celebrate milestones like marriage, childbirth, or starting college or military service.
To date, the ministry has crafted 16 shawls, 2 quilts, and 1 newborn baby blanket. All are welcome to join in creating these meaningful gifts. Supplies, such as yarn and knitting needles, are available.

Mount Zion Mentors Matter
We are looking for members of the Church Community to mentor students (Specifically Young Men). The goal is to mentor students in leadership and behavior skills that can better them in the classroom and in life. Students will participate in sports with their mentor to build a foundation. Flower Delivery
This dedicated group delivers flowers each Monday to people connected with St. John's Episcopal Church. The church staff provides a list of individuals who may need a pick-me-up or a thank-you. The group buys flowers, and participants in Respite Care at Walton Hall arrange them into bouquets. Deliveries are usually made in person, but sometimes flowers are left at the door with a voicemail to let the person know their day is being brightened. The Citadel Outreach Ministry
In collaboration with Kim Saffer from Grace Church Cathedral, we prepares meals for Citadel Cadets each Monday during the school year. The ministry offers home-cooked meals, Bible study, and religious services under the leadership of Lester Pitman and Rev. Rob Donehue. Charleston Port & Seafarers
St John’s has increased the support for this organization. The response to the “Christmas at Sea” effort more than doubled and the total number of boxes for 2024 was 58 gift boxes, all nicely filled and wrapped. We also had a fun tour during the Christmas season and brought gifts to the newly reopened Hugh Leatherman Terminal. The Seafarers Ministry is looking for new volunteers and if you are interested, please contact Clark Cromwell.

Chalice and Readers
A Chalice Bearer is a layperson authorized to assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during worship services. Their primary role is to serve the consecrated wine (the Blood of Christ) to the congregation during the Eucharist. A Reader is a layperson who participates in the worship service by reading passages from Scripture during the service. Our church choir is a group of singers who lead and enhance the musical aspects of worship services, helping to create a sacred and uplifting atmosphere. An usher at church is a volunteer who serves as a greeter and logistical helper, ensuring that worship services run smoothly and that everyone feels welcomed and comfortable. Centering Prayer
St John’s Centering Prayer group meets very Tuesday from 10:15 am - 11:15 am. In addition to a 20 minute session of centering prayer, we practice Lectio Divina on the 1st, 3rd, 4th Tuesday. On the 2nd and 5th Tuesday, we walk the labyrinth (weather permitting).
