About us

Who we are.
The Reverend Canon Calhoun “Callie” Walpole, a proud native of John’s Island, brings a rich tapestry of experiences and deep-rooted passion to her ministry. A graduate of Clemson University and the School of Theology at the University of the South in Sewanee, Callie has devoted much of her life to serving both her faith and her community.
As vicar and subdean of Grace Church Cathedral in Charleston, she has been a guiding light for many. Her leadership extended across the Diocese of South Carolina during its reorganization, where she faithfully served as archdeacon. Earlier in her journey, Callie taught Spanish at Burke and Bishop England High Schools, fostering connections across cultures. She also played a vital role in shepherding a small Spanish-speaking congregation that flourished at St. John’s Episcopal Church in the early 2000s.
Callie is a gifted author, sharing her wisdom and love for the Lowcountry through her books, Lessons from the Angel Oak, Wisdom from the Angel Oak, An Ordinary Summer, and In God's Hand: The life of Every Living Thing.
When she's not inspiring others through her ministry or writing, Callie treasures time spent kayaking, gardening, reading, and exploring history. A true sea islander at heart, she is most at home amidst the beauty and traditions of South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
Come meet Canon Callie, whose warmth, wisdom, and dedication embody the spirit of the Angel Oak and the sea islands she holds so dear.
